The Nielsen Company ('Nielsen') is a world-leading provider of market research, information and analysis, with a long history of carefully honoring the privacy of panelists. This Privacy Notice provides information about how we collect information on you, members of your household, and any other user of a computer in your household (individually or together 'you') on which our panel software ('Software') has been installed, and also what types of information are collected and how, where and for what purposes this data is processed, used and stored.

If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Notice, you should not use the computer on which the Software is installed.

We assure you that we will never disclose your individual personal information to our clients, or to any third party outside the Nielsen group of companies, which includes data processors authorized by Nielsen. We combine the data you provide us with data from other sources and from thousands of other panelists. We use all of this information to produce reports and analyses concerning computer and Internet activity throughout your country and around the world, on an anonymous basis. Our clients never see any individual's personal information, nor will we ever use any of your personal information to market or sell another party's goods or services to you.

What kind of information will we collect? During the recruitment and registration process as well as periodically throughout your membership in our panel, we ask you to provide us with your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, date of birth, sex, occupation, level of education and annual income, as well as other demographic information. Once you have registered to join the panel and installed our Software, we will automatically collect additional information from you and all other persons using the computer on which our Software has been installed, including any minor children in your household, because our Software allows us to comprehensively track panelists' computers and panelists' activity on their computers, both offline and whilst online on the Internet's World Wide Web. For example, we track the type, name and use of some of applications, files and hardware on your computer (including Microsoft Office, music and video files, and printers and routers), the address and content of the Internet sites you visit, the date and duration of the Internet sites you visit, the advertisements you receive or view, the Internet Service Provider you use, and the details of some types of transactions you enter into on the Internet (including during secure sessions).

Depending on the types of web sites you visit and applications you use, information gathered might include information which may indicate, directly or by inference, because of information you provide to the web page or the type of web page you view, your racial and ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade-union memberships, health or sexual life or other special categories of information relating to you. In addition, depending on whether you use the Internet for purchasing goods or services, the information obtained may include some personal financial and/or transactional information, including the products you purchased, the price you paid and the credit card you used. We also may be able to view the title bars at the top of any "window" that is active on your computer, depending on the application. This might include information such as the name and subject matter of a web site you visit, the name of a file open on your computer and, when you have an email open, in some cases will include the subject line of the email, any of which might contain information relating to the special categories of information indicated above.

Regardless of the type of information gathered, any personal information we gather is used only by Nielsen for internal market research purposes. Our market research reports and analyses provided to clients do not include any individual's personal information, nor will we ever use any of your personal information to market or sell another party's goods or services to you or to anyone else.

The information collected by our panel Software also allows us to send you surveys in relation to your profile and your activity on the Internet. These surveys request additional market research information to help us better understand Internet behavior and use. Your participation in a survey is always voluntary, and you therefore have a choice whether to provide the requested survey information. Your participation in our surveys does not constitute a condition of continuation of your membership in our research panel.

How will we use the information that you and other panelists provide? We use the information that you and other panelists provide us to perform research and to prepare anonymous statistical reports and analyses concerning how computers and the Internet are used in your country and around the world. We may complement the information you provide us with information obtained from third parties (such as other market research companies and database marketing firms) in order to obtain an even deeper understanding of the Internet audience. We may also use your contact information to send you messages, to advise you of any change of incentives relating to your membership in the panel and to invite you to update your personal details.

How do we maintain the security of the personal information we hold about you? Access to your personal data is limited to select staff within the Nielsen group of companies. Occasionally, we employ or contract with other companies and individuals to perform certain functions on our behalf, such as data processing, managing the incentives we provide to panelists or contacting panel members about their membership status. Such companies or individuals may be provided with access to your personal data needed to perform their specific functions, but are prohibited from using such information for any other purposes. We have in place certain security measures, including encryption methods, firewalls and access protocols, to help protect the security and confidentiality of personal data. However, although we go to lengths to protect your personal data from unauthorized disclosure, you should be aware that the communication and storage of personal data cannot always be completely secure. We may store the personal data we hold about you for as long as needed for the purposes indicated in this Privacy Notice.

Where is your personal information is transmitted, processed and stored? We may store this data in your home country and/or we may transfer and export this personal data to Nielsen group affiliates and data processors authorized by Nielsen, both inside and outside the European Union, including the United States, India and other locations where Nielsen does business, for use in processing and preparing anonymized research and marketing reports in connection with Nielsen's global activities. The data protection laws in countries to which your data is transferred may not provide an equivalent level of protection to those in your home country, but you may rest assured that we will always abide by this Privacy Notice, as well as any applicable laws, when your personal data is transferred overseas.

How do I access, correct and delete my information, or discontinue my participation in the panel? You can exercise all rights conferred to you under applicable data protection law at any time. You may update your profile information at any time; simply login to the Members area of our website http://uk.nielsennetpanel.com/pls/mguk/home and select "Update Profile". You may contact us at any time if you would like to see the information we hold about you, or to ask us to correct or update this information, or to ask us to delete all personal data that we hold about you on any storage media, or to stop your participation in our panel.Please contact us by e-mail at nielsenonline.uk@nielsennetpanel.com or through our website at http://uk.nielsennetpanel.com/pls/mguk/mgp_main.contact_us. You may also cancel your membership by uninstalling our panel software. For PC users, this can be done through the Add/Remove Program feature on your computer. We may change this Privacy Notice. This Privacy Notice supersedes and replaces any other statement we have made to you about our collection and use of your information. We reserve the right to update and make changes to this Privacy Notice. If we materially change our practices in handling personally identifiable information, we will notify you by e-mail and by posting the changes on the online Privacy Notice at least 30 days prior to their implementation. The changes will take effect automatically fourteen (14) days after you have been notified of the prospective changes, which will include a notice reminding you of the need to inform us within that period if you object to the changes. Unless the Privacy Notice states otherwise, any change reflected in the currently effective notice will apply to all information we will then collect about you. Your continued use of our Software after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of all of the changes.
